Workshops

At House of O, we believe that great play starts with great education.  We  offer both technical workshops, and soft skills workshops.

Both top and bottom perspectives are presented in each workshop, although some are primarily top focused and others are bottom focused.

Presentation only workshops are suitable for groups of any size, and hands on workshops are generally good for groups of 10-40 people.

Most classes can be offered in 90 minute or 120 minute versions, and some can also be condensed to 75 minutes.  Speak with us about how we can make our workshops fit your event schedule.

We often work with organizations to design custom content for your event, if you are interested in a class not listed here, or an adapted version of one please contact us.

Tired of learning rope ties and using cuffs to keep people where you want them? Have squirmy bottoms that try to get away? We’ll look at ways to use needles, piercings, fish hooks and staples to attach people to themselves, other people, or objects. We will discuss safety precautions as well as the techniques, equipment and supplies to use. A demonstration of medical bondage will be performed.

Shut your hole: Sutures and More

We will demonstrate using medical sutures, and the techniques and procedures involved.

Swollen Bits: Saline infusion play
Lead by Mr O
Demo Only

Saline infusion gives us a way to temporarily inflate a body part. Whether it is a scrotum, labia, breast

or lips, there’s always a place for it. We’ll talk about the reasons why we would want to do this, how it

affects the top and bottom, and ways we can incorporate it into other play. There will be a

demonstration showing the procedures and materials to use.

Decorative Needle Play
Lead by toy
Demo Only

So I know how to turn my bottom into a pincushion, now what??

This is a workshop designed for people interested in expanding their needle repertoire beyond the basic and want to start working on aesthetics!

From basic corsetry, to beading and buttons, to creating unique patterns with transfer paper – we will talk about the ways we can use needles to make our bottoms look even better!

All attendees must have a basic understanding of sharps/needle safety and techniques.

Kinky Wrestling
Lead by Mr O
Hands-on

This interactive, introductory level session shows the application of submission wrestling for play. The focus is on techniques that are easy to learn and apply, allowing both players to enjoy their scene safely. We’ll look at how we can bring them to the ground and get on top of them, and the things we can do with them once we are there. This is a hands on workshop so any clothing worn should be comfortable, and it is suggested to attend with a partner if possible.

Kinky Wrestling from the bottom: escapes and counters
Lead by Mr O
Hands-on

This workshop teaches techniques to escape once we have been pinned, ways to avoid getting into bad situations, and methods to turn the tables and take the top position. Techniques are simple and suitable for any body type and level of fitness. No experience is required. This is a hands on workshop so any clothing worn should be comfortable, and it is suggested to attend with a partner if possible.

Pinning for Pain
Lead by Mr O
Hands-on

Sometimes we’d rather hold our partner still with our own body while we hurt them. We will look at how we can apply pressure with our body weight to make them uncomfortable, restrict their breathing, or keep them defenseless while we hurt them. This is a hands on workshop, any clothing worn should be comfortable, and it is suggested to attend with a partner if possible. No experience needed.

Struggle Play and Rope
Lead by Mr O
Hands-on

Many of us like rough body play, and many of us like rope bondage too.  What could be better than both combined?  In this workshop we will look at using grappling take downs and pins to keep our partner still while we tie them, and ways we can use rope to control and move them as we play.

Topics covered will include:

  • Negotiation
  • Safety
  • Take Down
  • Pins
  • Quick Ties
  • Body Manipulation

Attendees should know a non-collapsing single and double  column tie.

Rough Body Play
Lead by Mr O
Hands-on

This hands on workshop shows how we can use our own bodies as our play implements. We will discuss slaps, punches, kicks, and more!  There is a lot to cover, so we prioritize the content based on the participants interests.

This class is part theory where we talk about safety, consent and negotiation, and part hands-on where participants may try techniques on their consenting partners.

This is an introductory level class, no previous experience is necessary. Comfortable clothing recommended, boots optional 😉

Intro to Strangulation
Lead by Mr O
Hands-on

This workshop provides an introduction to strangulation play (aka choking), including rope based methods.  Attendees who wish to do so will have the option of trying techniques on a partner, provided it falls within both of their risk profiles. Topics include: risks and risk mitigation negotiation type of choking play (air/blood) techniques & demonstrations optional hands on practice skill development

Take Down & Capture
Lead by Mr O
Demo only

Being captured is a central element of many fantasies, but the logistics can be challenging. We will demonstrate some of the principles we can apply when we want to include abduction or capture scenes in our play. The focus is on how to reduce the risk of consent issues, injury, or other complications through careful negotiations and planning, then using simple and effective techniques to complete the abduction. We discuss the considerations we need to make when keeping a captive, and how to manage the stress it puts on the tops and the bottoms.

No More Secrets: Interrogation Play
Lead by Mr O
Discussion/Demo

The interrogation scene is a fantasy for many of us, and we’ll dive into different ways to go about it.  This class looks at various styles of interrogations, both for people we know well, and those who are new to us. Topics include planning and negotiations; starting and ending scenes; physical, mental and psychological techniques; and safety considerations.  A demonstration of some of the methods discussed will be provided.  Participants are welcome to ask questions… now that you know how to make us answer.

Piss Perfect – Piss play 301
Lead by toy
Discussion/Demo

Now that you’ve mastered the art of pissing (or being pissed on!), where do we go from here? This class is designed for the pervert who is already enjoying golden showers, but wants to take it to the next level. (or 3?)

What are some creative and interesting ways we can incorporate piss play into our scenes? Why do we do it? How do we consume it safely? More importantly – without spilling!? Taught from a bottoms perspective, we will also talk about the psychology behind piss play, how to get over the gross, and techniques to make your scene even better!

This class will be part lecture, part demo, part discussion. We value your input!

Not for the squeamish.

How to take more pain: A Bottoms Approach
Lead by toy
Discussion/Demo

Don’t you love it when you get “top-splained” by well-meaning(?) Tops who think they know how bottoms process and tolerate painful experiences?

In this lecture/discussion, we’ll look at practical techniques for pain management (beyond being told just to “breathe”). We’ll discuss the differences in types of pain (joint, deep tissue, skin, surface, abrasions, etc), and look at ways to lengthen and endure more in our scenes.

We will also talk about active-bottoming and ways we can help our Tops bring us further than we thought possible.

Please keep in mind that this is a bottom-focused workshop, and we ask that all participants be in bottom headspace while participating. This class will be part lecture, part discussion.

FUNdamentals of Negotiations
Lead by Mr O
Discussion

This  workshop teaches some fundamental principles of negotiations for play. The topics discussed apply whether the scene in a few minutes long, or days long, and covers many styles of play. Time permitting, workshop attendees are invited to participate in mock negotiation sessions.

Topics covered include:

  • Some purposes of negotiation: safety, consent, protection, planning
  • Opt in vs Opt out consent models
  • From the top perspective vs bottom perspective
  • Physical, verbal, psychological, sexual, emotional limits
  • Risks and pitfalls
  • Avoiding misunderstandings: written vs verbal communications

“That’s not what I meant!” Practical communication in Play (Bottom lead)
Lead by ropeybunny & toy
Lecture/Discussion

We are often asked “How do I tell my top what I want/need without breaking the scene?” or hear comments that it “isn’t sexy if I have to tell them what to do”.

We want to break that myth and show you some practical ways to communicate with your top (verbally and non-verbally) that will actually help prolong the scene and make for better, more intimate (and safe!) play.

The More the Merrier: The organization and logistics of group scenes
Lead by Mr O
Discussion/Demo

Group scenes can add a lot of excitement to our play, but also introduce new challenges.  We’ll look at including an extra top or bottom into a quick scene, organizing weekend long capture scenes with multiple tops and bottoms, and everything in between.  Topics include vetting tops & bottoms, the complications of negotiating group scenes, planning for contingencies, how to find the people we need, and more.  We’ll share some of the experiences we have had, problems we’ve faced, and obstacles we have overcome during our own group activities.  We will also discuss some of the challenges and successes class participants have  encountered.

The Privilege We Hold
Lead by Mr O
Lecture/Discussion

As we get experience in the kink scene, we often don’t see the privilege that we are gaining.  We will look at ways to check in on ourselves, to help us stay ethical as our power relative to others grows.  Whether we’re an organizer, presenter or just the most experienced player in the room, we enjoy a level of privilege that can have profound effects on negotiations, access to partners, and our interactions in general.  We’ll discuss ways of honestly assessing our position and influence, so we can mitigate these power differentials and avoid taking advantage of them.

The Challenges we Face
Lead by Mr O, ropeybunny & toy
Lecture/Discussion

We always shudder at the classes labeled “how to do poly like me!” but also know how valuable it is to talk about these non-traditional relationship structures and break through that mono-romantic mold. In this discussion we will highlight some of the challenges we have navigated as individual poly partners as well as maintaining our ‘family” of 3. Each of us will give our unique perspectives and  talk through the difficult moments and what has worked (and not worked!) for us.

Ask us anything: The reality of poly dynamics with the house of O
Lead by Mr O, ropeybunny & toy
Interactive Discussion

Join mr_O, ropeybunny and toy while they openly and honestly discuss their relationships and what they’ve learned navigating some of the most challenging aspects of long-term poly dynamics. This is not a “HOW TO DO POLY” class but rather an open conversation about what we’ve learned along the way. Join us in a lead discussion – bring your questions and personal experiences – nothing is off the table!

Quick ties for fun times
Lead by Mr O
Hands-on

This workshop will teach simple ties that we can use to restrain our partner for kinky and/or sexual play.  The focus is on ties that we can put on quickly, sometimes with a single rope.  There will be no suspension, but we will discuss ways that we can use hardpoints, furniture or other objects to further restrain our partners. Previous rope experience is not needed, although prior knowledge of single and double column ties will allow you to proceed more quickly.  Participants should bring ropes with them.  We suggest 2-4 lengths (7-8 meters) of natural fibre rope.  We will have a limited number of ropes on hand that we can lend.

It is suggested that attendees come with a tying partner (or group), most of the ties will be difficult or impossible to self tie.

Putting on a Show
Lead by Mr O
Hands-on

When it comes to performance, technical skill or challenging positions are often not enough to captivate our audience. Especially when we are in front of people with little rope knowledge or experience, the details and nuance of our ties may not be appreciated. If we want to create a memorable experience, we need to plan and practice for it.

This interactive workshop focuses specifically on performance skills, mostly non-technical in nature. We start with general concepts around knowing our audience, planning our scene and telling a story through our tie. Then we move to specifics around movement, tempo, interaction, and positioning. These topics cover various types of performance, from spontaneous improvisation to tightly choreographed, and all with the specific intent of creating audience engagement and interest. As many of us perform where there will be photos or videos taken, we will also discuss some tips and tricks for helping photographers capture us.

There are no specific technical prerequisites for this class, suspension experience is not required.

Each pair should be prepared to demonstrate a short performance tie in front of the group, and receive feedback. These do not need to be pre planned or rehearsed, and should be well within the skill level of the pair.

Price is per tying pair. If you are a self-tier looking to work on similar skills, please reach out to us and we can recommend teachers with those skills.

Practicing Pain in Rope – A Practical Approach
Lead by toy
Hands-on

This class takes a practical approach to understanding pain in rope. Useful for both Tops and Bottoms, it is recommended that you attend this class as a pair. We will discuss practical ways to manage pain in rope and discuss the differences in types of pain. We will also discuss ways to communicate our pain and how to spot the differences between “good” pain, and pain that could lead to injuries.

We will move through a series of exercises that will allow bottoms to experience different sensations and use the tools provided to practice different forms of pain management. It is recommended that the Rigger has suspension experience and can quickly tie a chest harness, futo and basic compression ties. All levels of bottoms welcome – there will be adjustments made for experience level.

You take my breath away – fun with breathing (or not) and rope
Lead by toy
Hands-on

Do you hate breathing as much as I do? Interested in expanding your rope play with breath-restriction or chest compressions but not sure how to move past the (very normal!) panicked body response?! Then this is the class for you!

Taught from a bottom’s perspective, toy and mr.O will take you through a series of moderate to more difficult chest and neck ties that challenge the bottom to remain calm while spending time not really breathing 🙂 While this class will focus on tips and tricks for the person being tied, mr.o will teach 2 different harnesses and show varying degrees of difficulty level depending on comfort and experience. You should have some experience with suspension and be interested in breath play/restriction/compression.

Prerequisite for people being tied: Some experience with suspension, willingness to suffer

Prerequisite for people tying: Single column tie, basic frictions, up-lines management

This class is intended for bottoms who want to explore how their bodies feel in the air during rope suspension. Our focus will be on making decisions based on what is best for each of your own unique strengths and challenges during rope suspension. Participants will be lead through a guided suspension sequence exercise with room for choices and alterations with an emphasis on tips and tricks from the bottom perspective to make ties more sustainable and minimize risk of injury.

Intro to Suspension: A Bottom’s Approach
Lead by ropeybunny
Hands-on

During this class riggers will learn a suspendable arms free upper body harness of the instructors choosing to ensure bottoms can go through their suspensions as safely as possible under instructor supervision.

Pre requisites for bottoms is experience in rope on the ground or in partials. Bottoms should have some idea of how their body feels in rope under tension and have an indication of when rope is just painful vs. injury-inducing.

Riggers should have a solid knowledge of frictions, proper tension, upline management and some suspension experience. While we will be teaching our own harness in this class, riggers should be experienced in tying upper body harnesses made for rope suspension.

Prolonging your rope scene: a balance between strength and malleability
Lead by ropeybunny
Hands-on

This class will explore techniques of resistance in rope as well as relaxing into positions to help conserve energy in order to provide more sustainable and prolonged rope scenes. Bottoms should be comfortable with rope suspension and must be able to sustain either a TK or alternate upper body harness. Bottoms must be able to effectively communicate with their tops and have enough body awareness to know the difference between “difficult” rope and “dangerous” rope. Riggers must be able to tie a suspendable upper body harness as well as have knowledge of upline management. Riggers must also understand basic principles of static suspension (knowledge of dynamic suspension is recommended but not required). This is a BOTTOM led class. Riggers must be receptive to feedback in adjusting ties, placement of rope etc. as necessary.

Emotional Masochism and Sadism
Lead by toy & Mr O
Discussion

This class will explore elements of play often considered the most taboo – diving into someone’s psyche and finding ways to hurt them psychologically and emotionally.

We will discuss why this is so appealing to some – and also why it can sit on the fringes for so many.

We will explore how to do this as safely as possible: both from a bottom and top perspective. As well as ways to minimize long-term damage or trauma and whether this type of play is right for you.

We will discuss elements of emotional-torture that will inflict the most amount of pain for your bottom; whether for a one-time play session, a weekend, or for longer-term dynamics.

We will also talk about how to sustain this type of dynamic and what pitfalls we face when we walk this line on a more prolonged basis.

Cucks – Exploring Sexual Humiliation
Lead by toy
Discussion

This discussion explores the history of traditional cuckolding and why it can be so problematic, while looking at ways to explore it in a non-traditional and more ethical way. We aim to focus on non-traditional arrangements, cuckqueaning and other gender formations. We want to remove the stigma associated with cucking and find a new way to explore jealousy play while setting the intention to be much more socially minded.

We will look at what makes a truly fulfilling cuck-scene for both top and bottom while not forgetting the third element of the equation. We want to help you find new sexy and creative ways to explore jealousy and also show you how this traditional triad formation can be shaken up!

We will also discuss longer-term arrangements and how to keep them safe, fun, and ethical for everyone involved.

How can I say this? Exploring communication within power exchange
Lead by toy
Lecture/Discussion

Everyone tells us that “communication” is the key to good relationships.

But how do we effectively communicate while navigating power exchange or D/s dynamics particularly within non-monogamous or hierarchical relationship structures? Especially when we are usually navigating relationship structures that have never been healthily modeled for us.

We know that not every single thing we feel needs to be communicated immediately, but how do we know when and which ones do? And then how do we make sure the message we are sending (and receiving) is going to lead to the strengthening of our bonds and our relationships while still honoring our built-in power exchange?

This class will explore effective communication strategies and skills for folks navigating non traditional forms of relationships within BDSM/kink/non-monogamy. While the class is intended (and useful!) for everyone, it is lead with the right side of the slash in mind.
